Our group, the

Eleanor Roosevelt Gay Political Club, represents the strong cry of the over 150,000 gay and lesbian citizens in the Cleveland

area.

It

is past time we demanded the Gay/Lesbian Housing Rights Referendum for city!

this

Excuse me, Mr. Bores, but we have heard that compared to most other local homosexual rights groups in the nation, your membership has a relatively large representation from the gay community. With over 150,000 gays in the area, your membership must be enormous. Exactly what would you estimate your membership adds up to?

WRITE TO CITY COUNCIL

The Eleanor Roosevelt Gay Political Club is trying tô amend a Fair Housing Ordinance introduced to Cleveland City Council by Councilman Michael Polensek and Mayor Voincvich to include "sexual orientation."

Councilman Ray Pianka has agreed to introduce the amendment.

ERGPC is discussing the need for this amendment with members of City Council. To provide documentation backbacking up its case, it is asking all persons who have been denied housing in Cleveland because of their sexual orientation to write the club at 11101 Lake Avenue #4, Cleveland OH 44102, or to call 961-5556.

Eleanor Roosevelt is also calling on its members and all gay people living in Cleveland to write their representatives in City Council, and council members on the Committees for Health, Legislation, Community Development, and Finance.

Any of these Councilpersons may be written to c/o Cleveland City Hall, 601 Lakeside NE, Cleveland, OH 44114. As noted on page 4, ERGPC is

targetting the Committees on Health and Legislation.

Er . . ah well ah Thirteen. But that number does not include my mother or Phil Arula's cat (who, by the way has also been hell of a worker).

THIS MONTH'S CARTOON

Because our cartoons sometimes seem to be almost wilfully misinterpreted, perhaps we should spell out the meaning of this month's.

First, what it is does not

mean:

No, we are not attacking Jerry Bores, whose capacity for hard work has rightfully earned community respect.

Nor are we attacking the Eleanor Roosevelt Gay Political Club. And we know that ERGPC has more than 13 members.

Nor are we attacking cats. We think Phil's cat has had to do more than its share of ERGPC work. (My cat often

loudly

one

about complains Chronicle operations but we've never had to press her into service.)

Now, what it does mean:

Rob's cartoon criticizes community apathy. If it engenders anger, put the emotion to constructive use by writing members of council rather than bitching about the Chronicle.

Why pick on Lakewood? Because of all local areas with a high concentration of gay people, it seems by far the most apathetic. And no, this is not a criticism of Wonderful Westside Women, who might even change the Lakewood community.

KEEP ON WRITING

The National Federation for Decency (which is just as decent as Jerry Falwell is moral) is urging homophobes to write to companies whose advertising helped support the showing of "An Early Frost."

We are taking advantage of their research to pass on the information, for counter letters. You may write to:

Pres. Leonard H. Lavin, Alberto Culver, 2525 Armitage Avenue, Melrose Park, IL 60160. Products include frye boots, Mrs. Dash salt-free

seasoning, Sparkles air freshener, Static Guard Sugar Twin sweetener, and VO 5 hair products.

Chrm. Joseph D. Williams Warner-Lambert Company, 201 Tabor Road, Morris Plains, NJ 07950. Products include Certs breath mints, Chiclets gum, Clorets breath fresheners, Dentyne chewing gum, Dynamints candy. Halls cough drops, and Listerine mouthwash. [Buck Harris' review on page 11 suggests a way to reward the makers of Listerine while practicing safe sex.]
